the story

Vagabonding is a round-the- world travelogue created by Mike P, an optimist from Chicago. Mike traveled on his own through Asia and East Africa and updated this site from the road.

The trip is over, but the site remains. All the travelogue, video, and photo entries are in their archives.

Story Angles

You could get started with one of these angles:

Blogging to the next level. Already a phenomenon, personal web diaries, or "blogs", continue to grow in popularity. Vagabonding.com takes the blogging concept – and the most popular blogging content management software, www.moveabletype.org – to the next level.

Mobile media creation. Digital technology keeps getting smaller and more powerful. Vagabonding.com video is shot with a 4.4lb professional DV camera and edited on a 3.5lb laptop.

Pervasiveness of the Web. Is there really an Internet café in Timbuktu? How has the Web changed travel - and keeping in touch while you're overseas?

American abroad in a changing world. Considering the current state of world affairs, is it safe to visit Islamic countries such as Egypt? What about the tensions in India? How will people who feel strongly about the war on terrorism receive a lone American traveler?
